Farida Waziri

Farida Mzamber Waziri is a Nigerian technocrat and law enforcement officer who served as Executive Chairperson of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from May 2008 to 23 November 2011, becoming the first woman to head the agency. She succeeded Nuhu Ribadu in the role and was later replaced by President Goodluck Jonathan.

She obtained a degree in Law from the University of Lagos and a Master's degree in Law from Lagos State University.

Waziri enlisted in the Nigeria Police Force in 1965 and rose to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) before her appointment to lead the EFCC.

As EFCC Chairperson, Waziri oversaw a number of high-profile prosecutions, including the October 2010 conviction of Cecilia Ibru, former CEO of the defunct Oceanic Bank, who was sentenced to six months in prison for fraud and ordered to forfeit $1.2 billion in cash and assets.

As the first woman to lead Nigeria's Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Waziri's appointment marked a significant milestone for women in Nigerian law enforcement and public administration, during a tenure that included some of the agency's most notable banking-fraud prosecutions.
