Tiv is a tonal language — the same word can have completely different meanings depending on which tone you use.
This video explains all 4 tonal patterns:
• á High tone — voice rises or stays high
• à Low tone — voice falls or stays low
• a Mid tone — voice stays at a middle level (no accent mark)
• aa Long tone — vowel is doubled, changes meaning entirely
Example: wán (to call), wàn (to be lost), wan (word/story) — same letters, three different meanings!
