Gondo Aluor

Malam Gondo Aluor was the second Tor Tiv, the paramount traditional ruler of the Tiv people, succeeding Makir Zakpe. He also served as chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs. He was married and had 105 children.

Gondo Aluor was born in 1906. After passing Middle IV in the early 1920s, he began working as a teacher in 1924.

Aluor worked as a teacher from 1924 following his early education. In 1940, he was appointed chief scribe, and in 1948 he became deputy Tor Tiv, a position he held before his eventual installation as Tor Tiv.

Aluor was a contestant for the position of first Tor Tiv in 1946, representing the Ichongo royal house, but lost the vote to Makir Zakpe, who received 25 votes to Aluor's 11, with 18 chiefs abstaining. Following Zakpe's death in 1956, Aluor was installed as the second Tor Tiv. He went on to serve as chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs.

Awarded two medals in recognition of his service. Served as chairman of the Benue State Council of Chiefs.

As the second Tor Tiv, Aluor's installation ensured continuity of the paramount Tiv traditional institution established by his predecessor, Makir Zakpe, following the closely contested 1946 selection between the two men.

Aluor's path to the Tor Tiv stool — through service as a teacher, chief scribe, and deputy Tor Tiv within the Native Authority administration — reflected the gradual, administratively-embedded route to traditional leadership under the colonial Native Authority system.
