Dickson Tarkighir

Dickson Dominic Tarkighir is a Nigerian businessman and legislator representing Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, having first served from 2015 to 2019 and again from 2023.

Tarkighir was born on 12 April 1969 in Makurdi, Benue State.

He attended St. Thomas Primary School, Ibume, Makurdi Local Government Area (1976-81), and Nongov Community Secondary School, Tse-Kyo, Guma Local Government Area, graduating in 1986. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (1998-2003), and an MBA from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (2006-2008).

Tarkighir worked as an apprentice at Mojo Electronics, Umuahia (1988-91), and for Okada Air, Kaduna (1992-95), before founding Dasnett Mobile Services and later serving as Managing Director/CEO of Triggar and Gibbons Ltd, an advertising and logistics firm. He served as Senior Special Assistant on Industries to the Governor of Benue State (2009-2014), and is a member of the ECOWAS Parliament.

Tarkighir was first elected to the House of Representatives for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency in the 8th Assembly (2015-2019) on the APC platform, unseated in 2019, and re-elected in the 10th Assembly from 2023. He has sponsored nine bills, including on cattle ranching, healthcare, tobacco control, and energy distribution, and seven substantive motions on constituency issues, and has been a vocal critic of the federal government's handling of herder-farmer violence in Benue State.

Documented more than 15 constituency development projects, including solar infrastructure, skills centres, medical outreach, and roads.
